At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what we do for a living. We are Christians, daughters, wives, mothers, friends and family members. We are two people in a world of billions, which includes each member of our WORK//SHOP squad.

And that’s why we dedicate the end of each WORK//BOOK (our monthly member magazine) to an article and Bible verse focused on taking care of what matters most in all of our lives. We’ve had the most amazing summer professionally, preparing for our third trip to speak at AmericasMart and meeting with so many of you amazing entrepreneurs. But there is a flipside to every coin, and our professional milestones have been offset with so many tragedies in our nation and throughout our world.

Even when we are separated by hundreds or thousands of miles from a tragedy, they hit close to home as our children are exposed to the news and we have to try to explain what is happening in the world around them.

In our discussions, we’ve realized that these issues aren’t just a political matter. (In fact, we often have friendly disagreements on issues.) This is a people matter, and we can all take simple steps to make the world a better place.

So right now, instead of focusing on taking care of ourselves, our health or family time, we are focusing on taking care of the world around us.

Over the next month and beyond, we are committed to doing random acts of kindness in our community, and we hope you’ll do the same in yours.

Whether it’s a simple kind word and smile to the mother who is overwhelmed in the grocery store, a few dollars to the person who is out on their luck, a food delivery to your local police or fire station, or a commitment to volunteer hours with a nonprofit organization, we can all find a way to do our part to let other knows that they are important and they matter to us.

Let’s all take time to take care of and love one another. There’s truly no greater calling.

“A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” John 13:34-35
